Almost every parent mostly mothers, comes to me and ask for tips for their child’s food habit. This is very common problem for mothers. They were always show concern about child’s food intake and growth of child. Mostly, the children are fussy eater and this fussy eater child become headache.
We all are going through this situation so it is understandable that how it feels.
Here, I share some tips that may help you to make meal time easy.
Schedule time for Meal
This is the first rule for make your child’s food habit regular. Make schedule for child’s meal time and almost stick to it. If somehow any of day the schedule be disturbed then understand your child’s situation. At that point if he refuses to take food, let them go.
If you found that your child has take some food like chocolate, ice-cream or any snacks just before meal time, it is obvious that they have not much hunger. So, don’t force them to complete their full meal or opt for something lite to eat.
No distraction at meal time
Make sure your child does not surround by distraction like mobile, TV or tablet. It creates a less appetite and child can’t take attention to the food. These all distraction do not allow your child to make connection with food.
When you make meal time distract free, your child automatically pay attention to food. He starts to take interest in it, by observation they learn about the taste and texture of food. This crate full attention of your child to the food and they likely to have it with less effort.
Make meal time Fun time
Convert child’s meal time into Fun-time, can reduce your half of your efforts. Be creative to make meal time their favourite. Well, upbringing a child is all about being creative as a parent even though I always say.
Serve them food in different shape and colours. Model play food, competition of eating food. There are lots of ways to make meal time into fun time. By all these you are not only give them opportunity to create a connection with food but also with you. And that is the most important part of parenting.
You can also involve your child while making food like preparing batter, shelling peas, mixing dry and wet ingredients etc. It creates curiosity and they will also learn from it. It become play time for them and you both enjoy each other’s company in the kitchen.
They may mess your kitchen but it is ok if our child as some playtime with us while we are preparing meals. Thy will enjoy that food where they work so hard that is the bonus point for us. Doesn’t it?
Stop to reinforce the situation
When child being a fussy eater we start complaining to others and continuously complaining about our child. Our words are like, my child is so fussy eater, he does not like this kind of food, He never complete his plate etc.
This kind of conversation happen in front of child and by doing this you reinforce your child to be fuzzier. They behave more in the way that you have presented against the others.
So, please stop to talk with others about their food habit and specially when they are hearing you.
Keep patience
Your child has already a regular habit of food and it will not change from day one. You should keep patience until a child is able to adopt a new habit of food.
Try to make change little by little. It takes a long time. Give your child enough time to adopt new food habit.
Look at child’s growth
Mothers are much more concern about the child and their food intake. Many mothers have the belief that the more her child takes food the child be healthier. But that is misconception about food and health relation.
If you find that your child’s growth is normal and he fell sick lesser than there is no matter of concern because child is taking enough food that his body need.
Keep your eye on their weight, height, mind development and physical activity. If these all are ok then yahoo, your child takes proper diet.
Conclusion
Our child has also sense of hunger. If you found something not good about their health that is the sign of consulting specialist. But if everything goes ok then let it be there. Your patience and understanding can make your child’s meal time enjoyable not only for you but also for your child.
